NSW:Paramedic dies during canyoning rescue

A paramedic has died trying to rescue an injured canyoner on the New South Wales south coast.

The paramedic died during the rescue at Carrington Falls around sunset last night,
despite the efforts of the Ambulance Service's helicopter rescue crew.

Emergency teams are back on the scene this morning trying to rescue the canonyer and
recover the body of the paramedic.

A spokeswoman for the NSW Ambulance service says the death is, first and foremost,
a tragedy for the family and it's also a tragedy for the service.

The Civil Aviation Safety Authority and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau will
investigate the accident.
