Fed: Compromise deal on woolgrower rep committee
Australian wool leaders have devised a compromise board and membership role for their
new national representative organisation.
The Wool Industry Representation Committee says growers will have an option of direct
membership or membership through state agriculture organisations to the new body.
Committee chairman DALE PARK says grower members will elect six of the organisation's
12-member board, while another six will be elected by the state organisations.
He says the committee is preparing a memorandum of understanding outlining the aims,
core functions, membership and corporate structure of the organisation.
In a poll taken mid-year, growers backed a direct membership organisation to represent
their interests.
But the state organisations, which will lose control and members because of the move,
has fought the proposal.
